Audience Types + My targetted audience

They are many audience types such as Mainstream, Cult, subversive and Alternative. My targeted audience this year considers of two types; mainstream and cult mainly.

Why it fits in the Mainstream category?
Mainstream is something that is a song for everyone; our music video is a music video for both all types of people which shows it is not for one culture. This is what makes it mainstream, however, it feels more cult than mainstream. It is finally fit to this category as the song is not 'caused music,' which is music aimed for less populated audience. By giving a definition of 'swag' shows that we as a group want everyone to be apart of us and are accepted.

Why it fits in the Cult category?
In my digipak is contains 'parent advisory' showing that is aimed for not young children.
It is also cult as it entertains more of the teenage age 11-20 as they can relate to it or understand the word 'swag' without needing an explanation.
Targeted Audience: Here are photos of people that would mostly likely watch the music video:

Initial Ideas for Digipak & Magazine

DIGIPAK

My initial idea was to create a digipak that would rememberable to the audience through bright eyed catching artistic based photos. I wanted to convey to the audience through the visualisation that my artist cared about the way they looked. As my music video was around 'swag.' I additionally wanted to approach to my audience the linkage between that song and the digipak. I then came to a conclusion that my songs would based about the way you looked and all about personality. I think this is a strong idea as it had relations to my genre; RnB and Hip-Hop. This is because many artist from that genre sing about them things. '50 cent - I get money.' or personality 'Nicki Minaj - Bad Bitch.'

The music that might be in the album has been shone through the titles; as 50 cents - Get right die trying shows he might talk about life issues; people need to get money (hustling enabling to get money.) In Nicki Minaj's - Its Barbie Bitch there is a contrast and that title connotes that the album may have a lot of swearing and a lot of attitude. Both are 'Parental Advisory' I thought I would include this also for my digipak as many Hip-hop artists would have this on their album however many groups don't but it shows that my group is different from the stereotypical girl group.

STRUCTURE
I decided to create a single 6 panel digipak as I thought the photos and what was actually on the panels were most important. I researched on Digipaks on Youtube and came across this video showing U2 -'No line on the horizon' layout of their digipak. They reason why I was so attached to this digipaks structure is because it was unique to the typical 6-8 panels full of photos for example. This gave me the idea to include a booklet on top of the second inside panel on the digipak (same place as the U2's one.) I also thought It was creative and made things more different. I feel that this can be in relation to making my own digipak due to the interpretations wanted for my buyers to receive; fresh and different. This goes perfectly to music video as we included 'swag' meaning 'fresh' or 'new.'

Initial Ideas something colourful, bright. I looked at RNB, Hip Hop artists such as Lil wayne who had creative front covers. Alternatively, I looked at a website at images (available below) which showed what shots to use i.e. close ups to emphasis the facial expressions or long shots to emphasis the costume.

Looked on Youtube, I found out from this music video

PHOTOS OF INFLUENCE FOR DIGIPAK AND MAGAZINE

Here are some photos for Keri Hilsons new album 'No Boys aloud.' These photos influenced me deeply as her photos are very feminine and I loved the mirror idea of the reflection. I thought this would be a good idea to put a photo like this in my digipak as It would remind the audience of the video and the mirror relates to 'swagger' and caring about how you look.

I love this photo especially as I feel that these poses look like the poses my group would do and I like the background of (bit of graffiti) relating to the codes and conventions of the genre.
It gave me an idea to take a photo in an exterior area, to be more specific, grafitti area to reflect on the codes and conventions.

This is the Album Cover for the upcoming album to be released. I like this album cover because I like that the album is called No Boys Allowed and shows this through a warning line. I also like the symbolism shown through the lip stick as it is supposed to be a cigarette. Additionally I love the effect of the cigarette, 'Keri Hilson' and warning line is in colour and the rest in black and white because it stands what Keri Hilson feels is most important on the cover.

COLLAGE

This is a collage I made on the computer which include album photo covers found on a website,
http://www.album-cover-art.org/.
These influenced me on what photos to take, i.e. close ups, use black and white effect or like photo four of cassie and editing use colours of pink, grayscale and black. I feel its effective as its orginal and stands the artist out.

MAGAZINE
My initial idea is to make my key information to get through to the audience, such as, 'out now', the name of the album.
My idea is to also to include a website including availabe downloads such as iTunes.
My idea was initially to have a 'Dime Divas' graffiti font to consistency flow with the location of the music video and the group work around the words. I would have emphasised the artist through the words and information.

Initial Ideas for Music Video

Performance based - something more enjoyable
Creative Ideas
Gender: R'n'B is what we looked at we thought we could relate to it due to watching a lot of these type of music video.

My Idea was to do Storybased - My initial idea was Rihanna - Unfaithful
as I thought I could conduct a story well.

Ciara - Like A surgeon

Idea of Keri Hilsons, Lil Kim and Teyana Taylor song... fun,
creative ideas...

SONG:

My idea of a good video to do.

The song below we considered it is fun, energetic, could come up with creative ideas.

BEHIND THE SCENES :
Rich Girl - Swagger Right Video

Swagger right - What I learnt?

Here is the director for the video, 'Swagger Right.'

The male artists use the codes and conventions as they wear chains and sunglasses.

The director probably used a spotlight to emphasis Lyndriette.

Reflects on appearance.

The next three photos show the relationship through the same dance moves to show they are a group even though there is individual personalities.

3.
This photo reflects on appearance yet again which shows how important appearance is, not just because of being a girl group but also relating to 'swag' and approach.

The denotation of the grafitti in the background conotes the genre straight away.

History of Music Videos

Pete Fraser introduced the understanding of the History of music videos. Looking at MTV which was introduced in 1981. We looked even before MTV this looking at Artists for example Nat Cole, The Beatles and Scopitones.

NAT KING COLE - I learnt that they used screens within a screens that is still used in contemporary music videos; even in 50 cents Candy shop with the paintings of the artists.

SCOPITONES - They had a goal and consistency with their music videos which were to be comical and fun to watch.

Unable to find but a Beatles music video used bird eye shots and high angled which made the music video more interesting inspiring for me to also do this effect to my targeted audience.
MTV
50 cent's candy shop was recognized use to its originality despite following its codes and conventions. The use of it being a dream makes things yet again out of the normality and story-like.

MICHAEL JACKSON'S THRILLER
Michael Jackson's Thriller is a 14-minute music video, released on December 2, 1983 Often referred to as the greatest music video ever and has also been voted the most influential pop music video of all time; it was named 'a watershed moment for the music industry' Guiness World Records listed it in 2006 as the "most successful music video", selling over 9 million units. As Michael Jackson's Thriller was  used as a massive marketing tool, it made me realise that my music video has to really have an effect on the audience. I personally thought it was good because
merging film-making and music.

Lipsynching

Lipsynching is very important because if the words are not synchronised with the music it may be confusing and annoying to the audience. I have experienced this through Usher's music video more, it was not synchronised this demonstrates a poor example of this. This enlighted me to make sure my groups lipsynching is synchronised.

A video that I would want my lipsynching to be like is Eminem's - I need a doctor, this is because Eminem's lipsynshing is righ and synchronised.

Introduction to Lipsynching:

This is the first time I tried to lipsynch and I couldn't do it without the lyrics which I could only see for a period of time. I also couldn't do it because when the verse came I don't think I was prepared for it.

This is the second clip of whip my hair.

This was the best clip of lipsynching whip my hair.

The next two lipsynching was for fun after thinking that I could get involved lipsynching as I thought the words wasn't so hard. I thought by the lyrics being quiet repetitive it would be easy to remember the words. I did find out the quiet difficulty if i didn't not know how the beat changed.

Song called I want you which is were I found the beat change so the lipsynching had to change.
so what? From Pink is a song I got involved to lipsynching because I was familiar with the song and liked it.

The next song I sang was Keri Hilson's Pretty rock. The reason why I chose this song is because I have been looking at Keri Hilson through her videos, behind the scene Photoshoot and she is my idol.

wats going on? Pretty girl rock.

The reason why I chose Nicki Minaj's - Right thru me, not only because I like the song but because also I though it was be easy because of the pauses and the Parellism therefore the words would be rememberable. I also wanted to challenge myself with trying to rap in the verse.

In this clip I had to stop because I couldn't do it as I thought the rapping bit was hard.

I found that eventhough I finished lipsynching this whole song I thought it has hard was it came to lipsynch the rapping parts of the song because you didn't want lyrics would come as it was fast and did not have pauses at time.

WHAT IDEAS INFLUENCED ME OR MY GROUP AND I TO BE USED IN MY MUSIC VIDEO:

I looked at Swagger Right by RichGirls as I am a big fan of them. The idea that they are a group however show their different personalities through different clothing sense. This is an idea I also wanted to portray to the audience to reflect on different people's personality despite from the same culture or background. I love the sense of urban lifestyle; shown through the graffiti in shots, also from the use of rappers, as Rick Ross is smoking a cigar reflecting on his 'hardcore' life. I also liked the use of unison which has been shown in some parts of the video of similar movement, or walking as a group.

We used Beyonce's Diva video for our beginning for our film. We liked the idea of her interpretation of diva. The first 6 seconds shows what we imitated, we used this in a different terms, as we wanted to tell the audience that we accept any audience and want them to part of our culture.

The choice of always changing clothes from the video below is what the group wanted to use as it shows different personalities and makes the video more interesting. As the video is also about 'swag' it has been reflected from the variety of clothes we use. It additionally shows we are wealthy enough to able to afford the outfits we use in the music video.

Cassie's 'Me and You' videos helped with creating my part of the video and the mirroring footage. I personally remember this music video for mirroring when seeing this video, the video was successful because of the use of variety of reflection shots. I thought it was a great way of representing women.

I'M THE FOOL - Soundgirl This is an effective music video as they use a lot of effects and locations which showed that our group should do the same to catch the eye. I personally the word used in some shots  (Around 14 times) to emphasis the lyrics. We can also do this or just use slow motion which is also used to emphasis things. The use of the roof made me and my group group keep the idea of using a roof as a location still. They are also in unison like Richgirl Dance and RD which looks like their a group which may also be considered to used.

UK Girls Group RD is similar to our group because it shares the same targeted audience, there is a lot of action in each video which I feel all videos need to do so to attract teenagers. As they are max. 20 years old they can relate to the young audience. We looked at movement of the group and considered to use that in our work as I feel they show team work in both videos.

Here is another video of RD.

Cali swag - 'Teach me how to dougie'
- This influenced our group to include the shots of people dancing as it shows the culture of the group which shows understanding of the group that the audience needs to understand.

ANIMATIC
This is an animatic I made in relation to my music video. I took images from my storyboard and put them together. This is the initial idea of how the beginning of the beginning of the music video show look like.

PhotoShoot

I learn that framing is because photos needs to be straight, also style is important as they also attract the audience as they seem not boring and are interesting rather than bland. The more interesting it is the more it catches the audience eye. For my photos I may do them long shot to emphasis on the wealthy my group has, on top of this a half frame shot on individual than a middle framed close up as it is boring.

Here are photos evidencing taking pictures for my and my groups individuals digipaks:
